Ghrelin – The Hunger Hormone

All those people who are really disappointed by their never ending hunger, which creates an urge to eat more and more resulting in weight gain, awful figure and body shape, after which we gain so much that we think opt for cosmetic surgeries to lose the unwanted fat in our body by Abdominoplasty, tummy tuck, liposuction, lap band surgery etc.

Stop blaming yourself ! Now scientists have found the reason for this never ending hunger – Ghrelin the hunger hormone.

Yes what you read is correct it’s Ghrelin a hormone which is secreted by P/D1 cells found in stomach lining and upper intestines that stimulates hunger. Apart from stimulating the hunger Ghrelin is also known to promote the production in growth hormone in foetuses. However that’s not exactly Ghrelin is known for. As mentioned it stimulates the appetite and carries the messages between the brain and the digestion system of human body to inform that it is right time to eat.

The secretion level of Ghrelin increases before eating and decreases simultaneously after the intake, it has been seen that Ghrelin slows the body metabolism and reduces the fat burning mechanism in the human body.  Abdominoplasty is a surgical procedure which is performed when it really becomes really difficult for the patient to rely on anti obesity drugs and workouts.

There are many anti obesity drugs available in the market which are recommended by physician to keep a control on your diet as these drugs results in less secretion of Ghrelin hormone resulting in controlling the Obesity and weight gain.

Good and sound sleep also plays a major role in balanced secretion of Ghrelin hormone resulting in a healthy body, it has been noticed that people who do not take proper sleep and meals at right time tend to become more obese and gain more weight, as due to improper sleep and bad food habits the secretion of Ghrelin gets affected. One should always follow the saying ‘Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy n wise‘when it comes to sleep we need to follow a timetable and should have a sound sleep for 6-8 hours every night. We are always in a habit of completing the pending work from yesterday however when it comes to sleep it actually doesn’t work like that. We really can’t sleep in instalments and without a proper routine.

Tummy can be tucked in many ways always try avoiding eating fast food and take proper time to eat, as eating habits also plays a major role the secretion of Ghrelin resulting in the abnormal imbalance and increased hunger, craving to eat.

A healthy diet should always contain more of proteins than carbohydrates and low fats. Always eat green vegetables as much as you can, if not directly try eating them by different means, Salads, Salsas, boiled vegetables. For high protein diet one should have seafood, boiled eggs white.

Always remember your body is your temple, you can win hearts by the confidence which gets created when you have a healthy mind and body. Sticks to good eating habits have fruits and vegetables as a part of your daily routine diet.
